Therapeutic Pilates

Pilates is a system of repetitive exercises performed on a mat or other equipment to promote strength, stability, and flexibility.

In one-on-one Pilates sessions, we work the whole body, especially the core and spine. These sessions take advantage of tools like the Reformer, Cadillac (not the car!), CoreAlign, Wunda Chair and small props. Each of these has a unique way of activating and strengthening different muscles, and when used together they create a more balanced and engaging workout.

What Clients Say

Fran has elevated my awareness of my anatomy, inside and out. She showed me how to safely keep my musculoskeletal self loose and limber to improve and maintain stability, strength and safe function. She also taught me patience with myself while on this Pilates road to fitness. Thank you, Fran!

Frequently Asked Questions

A dear colleague of mine, Thomas Wells, describes NeuroKinetic Therapy® as “an innovative and increasingly well-known method of manual therapy which utilizes manual muscle testing to assess and correct dysfunctions of the coordination system of the brain.” Sessions consist of three components: assessment of areas related to pain, evaluation, and on-the-spot corrections. After, I assign you release and activation exercises to do at home. I consider the homework to be reinforcement of our corrections and not strength exercises. Throughout the session, I combine gait analysis, visceral massage, kinesiology taping and other massage modalities to provide a more comprehensive approach to pain relief.

Pilates is a fitness practice that emphasizes the core, spine, and posture. During your sessions, we will focus on the six principles of the Pilates Method: breath, centering, concentration, control, precision, and flow. We will take advantage of tools like the Reformer, Cadillac (not the car!), CoreAlign, Wunda Chair and small props. Each of these has a unique way of activating and strengthening different muscles, and when used together they create a more balanced and engaging workout.

The Not Your Traditional Pilates Mat classes, which take place virtually over zoom, are more challenging than equipment-based sessions. While Pilates equipment gives you an external support framework, mat classes require you to support your own body and emphasize more robust core strengthening. On the other hand, the Reformer, CoreAlign, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair target and tone specific areas of your body very efficiently. Both types of classes provide pain relief and muscle strengthening.

New clients should arrive 10 minutes prior to your session to fill out a Client Intake and Liability form.

All one-on-one, duet and trio sessions are 55 minutes in length and begin and end on time.  You are more than welcome to arrive 5 minutes early to allow time to remove your shoes and socks without interfering with your scheduled time.

I accept MasterCard/Visa and cash.  There is a $30 returned check fee for any checks that do not go through.

The studio practices an industry-standard 24-hour cancellation policy. Once you make a reservation, I make a commitment to you and hold that timeslot. If you can’t make it, providing 24 hours advance notice shows respect for that time commitment and allows me to book another client in your place.

I provide all equipment needed for your session. However, because of COVID-19, if you feel more comfortable in bringing in your own fitness mat or towel please do so. I do highly encourage you to have a bottle of water to keep you hydrated as you exercise.

Wear comfortable workout clothes that you can move in.  I ask that you refrain from wearing fragrances with a strong scent.

It’s my top priority to keep you safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. I will comply with all recommended guidelines. Know that all equipment is wiped clean between clients and all surfaces are kept sanitary.
